2. Mix the melted butter with the mashed bananas, then add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until everything is well combined.

4. Pour the batter into the loaf pan and spread it evenly. Slice the remaining banana in half lengthwise and press it into the top of the batter.

5. Sprinkle the top with flaked almonds or chopped nuts (optional) and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.

Caramelized Banana Bread Recipe

This banana bread recipe is absolutely fantastic! It's so easy to make, and the result is a perfect blend of sweet, moist, and flavorful.

MAKES: 1 loaf SERVING: 8 to 10 PREP TIME: 15 min

BAKING TIME: 50-55 min TOTAL TIME: 1 h 10 min

Ingredients
  • 4 very ripe bananas

  • 75g (1/3 cup) butter, melted

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda (not baking powder)

  • 100-150g (3/4 cup) sugar (1/2 cup if you would like it less sweet)

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 200g (1 1/2 cups) all-purpose / plain flour

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C (160°C Fan) / 4 gas mark). Grease or line with baking paper a 9x5-inch (23x13 cm) loaf pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Set aside.

  3. In a mixing bowl, mash 3 overripe bananas with a fork until they reach a smooth consistency. The more ripe the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread will be.

  4. Incorporate the melted butter into the mashed bananas, followed by the granulated sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Blend until all the ingredients are well combined. Gradually add the dry ingredients to your banana mixture, stirring just until they're incorporated.

  5. Fold in chopped almonds, flaky almonds, or chopped nuts, chocolate chips (optional). These additions add delightful texture and flavor.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly. Halve the remaining banana lengthwise and press it into the top of the batter, with the cut side facing up. Sprinkle the top with flaked almonds or chopped nuts (optional) and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.

  7. Bake for 50-55 minutes, until golden brown, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.

  8. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.

Enjoy!
